Solid-state high-water detection for marine compartments

The SEAFLO SFWAS1-20-01 combines an electric-field water-level switch with a visual and audible alarm rated at 95 dB or higher. It is a 12V DC warning system for detecting abnormal water rise in bilges and other boat compartments.

The sealed sensor has no moving float and introduces an approximately three-second delay before signalling, helping reject brief splashes and wave movement. It provides an alarm function only; a separate pump system is required to remove water.

Key design features

  • Solid-state electric-field detection with no exposed moving mechanism.
  • Sealed electronics help resist corrosion, oil and debris commonly encountered in bilges.
  • Approximately three-second activation delay reduces nuisance warnings from splash or momentary water contact.
  • Activates at approximately 41 mm water level and deactivates at approximately 9.5 mm.
  • Audible output of at least 95 dB plus a visual warning.
  • 12V system with a 20 A maximum circuit rating; this is a rating, not the normal alarm draw.

Compatibility and installation checks

  • Use only on a 12V DC marine electrical system; select the corresponding 24V product for a 24V installation.
  • Suitable for leisure boats, yachts, RIBs, fishing boats and workboats with a clean, accessible mounting surface at the required warning level.
  • Mount the sensor in the orientation stated by the installation instructions and test it with water before relying on the system.
  • Route wiring above normal bilge water, protect connections against moisture, and fit circuit protection appropriate to the installation.
  • Position the alarm where it can be seen and heard from the normal operating area.
  • Package contents: electric-field level switch and alarm assembly. Main cable, fuse and installation consumables may be required.

Frequently asked questions

Does this product operate the bilge pump?

Its primary function is high-water detection and warning. Design the pump-control circuit separately unless the installation documentation explicitly confirms a compatible control arrangement.

Is the sensor a conventional float switch?

No. It is a sealed electric-field sensor with no moving float.

Will wave movement cause constant alarms?

The three-second delay helps reject momentary splashes, but correct mounting remains essential.

Can I install it on 24V?

No. This unit is the 12V version; do not connect it directly to 24V.
