Questions & Answers
Is this shackle suitable for lifting?
No. This is a commercial-grade marine shackle designed for mooring, anchoring, and static rigging. It is not load-rated or certified for overhead lifting or critical safety-of-life applications.
Will the pin rust into place?
The hot-dip galvanization provides excellent protection, but for long-term underwater or permanent mooring use, we recommend using a marine-grade anti-seize lubricant on the threads and mousing the pin with stainless steel wire.
What is the difference between a 'Large' D and a standard D shackle?
A 'Large' D shackle (sometimes called a Wide Dee) has a longer body and wider internal clearance than a standard Dee shackle of the same pin diameter, allowing for easier connection to oversized thimbles or multiple ropes.
Note: Always ensure the pin is fully tightened and moused (secured with wire) when used in permanent mooring applications. Verify your chain size and required clearances before purchasing.
